Our family opened the Hotel Knappaboda exactly thirty years ago, but Lech has been our home for generations. Founding the hotel turned out to be one of the best things we've ever done, and one of which we're still very proud today. The hotel is located near the centre of the village, directly beside the ski slopes and the cross-country ski track. Start off each morning with a wonderful buffet breakfast, and spend the rest of the day doing whatever you fancy. When you return later in the day we will treat you to a traditional afternoon snack. In the evening you can choose from Lech's plethora of great restaurants, offering pretty well anything you could wish for. Of course, there is always a possibility of you getting "waylaid" in one of our atmospheric mountain ski huts, resulting in a rather late night! But who cares? Why rush back when you're on holiday? Have fun!
Our house is run as a family business. Gertrud is responsible for the hotel's congenial interior design; welcomes you in reception; bakes the mouth-watering selection of cakes to tempt you each afternoon. Herbert makes sure that everything is in good working order and is the welcoming face behind the bar. We are also very fortunate in having a great back-up team.
The Walch family would like to introduce themselves
Our five children have all grown up here, so it’s not surprising that they too share our passion for the hospitality industry.
Franz-Josef, our eldest son, runs the „Aelpele” restaurant in the romantic Zuger valley. Beautifully secluded during the winter months, it is only accessible by foot or with cross-country skis in the day. At night, our all-terrain snow-mobile shuttle service is in operation. Franz-Josef’s younger brother, Maximilian, is the artistic member of the family. He works in interior design and is passionately fond of nature, also using his mountaineering skills as a member of the Lech Mountain Rescue Team.
Our eldest daughter, Viktoria, lives in Lech, with a passion for gastronomy. She works for a famous water vendor called „Vöslauer“, based in the sales department. Last but not least, we have our twin girls. Sophia has climbed further up the mountain, trading Lech for Oberlech to work in the Hotel Montana at reception. Theresa lives and works in Vienna involved in environmental programmes, but comes home to visit as often as possible.
We have an extensive network of family and friends in and around our award-winning resort, which enables us to provide you with some great insider tips. We pride ourselves in being able to pass on some local know-how to help our guests enjoy a relaxing and satisfying holiday.
