Our family opened the Hotel Knappaboda exactly thirty years ago, but Lech has been our home for generations. Founding the hotel turned out to be one of the best things we've ever done, and one of which we're still very proud today. The hotel is located near the centre of the village, directly beside the ski slopes and the cross-country ski track. Start off each morning with a wonderful buffet breakfast, and spend the rest of the day doing whatever you fancy. When you return later in the day we will treat you to a traditional afternoon snack. In the evening you can choose from Lech's plethora of great restaurants, offering pretty well anything you could wish for. Of course, there is always a possibility of you getting "waylaid" in one of our atmospheric mountain ski huts, resulting in a rather late night! But who cares? Why rush back when you're on holiday? Have fun!
Our house is run as a family business. Gertrud is responsible for the hotel's congenial interior design; welcomes you in reception; bakes the mouth-watering selection of cakes to tempt you each afternoon. Herbert makes sure that everything is in good working order and is the welcoming face behind the bar. We are also very fortunate in having a great back-up team.
The Walch family would like to introduce themselves
Our five children have all grown up here, so it’s not surprising that they too share our passion for the hospitality industry.
Franz-Josef, our elder son, runs the Restaurant Älpele in the romantic Zuger valley. During the winter months this is only accessible on foot or cross-country skis, although each evening a snow-mobile shuttle service is in operation. Maximilian is the artistic member of the family. He works in interior design and is passionately fond of nature. He is also a hunter and a member of the Lech Mountain Rescue Team.
Viktoria is living in the Tyrol and has changed sides in the world of gastronomy. She now works for Vöslauer in the sales department. Sophia runs the “Wood, Iron & Putter” pub on Zug golf course; in the evenings she serves guests in the renowned Roten Wand fondue restaurant. Theresa lives and studies in Vienna, but comes home to visit as often as possible.
We have an extensive network of family and friends, which enables us to provide you with some great insider tips. It is a real pleasure to be able to pass on some local know-how to help our guests enjoy a relaxing and satisfying holiday.
